Realm FAQs

  • How does Realm work?

Profiles: Your profile is your starting point. It contains your contact information, household members, email preferences, giving history, groups you belong to, and more.

Giving: You can pledge, contribute, and see your giving history through your profile.

Groups: Realm’s “Groups” feature simplifies interacting with others in the church, including committees and small group ministries. When you activate your profile, you are automatically part of a group called Salem Evangelical Church.

Serving: SEC uses Realm to let you know about volunteer opportunities. You can find just the right role for you and your skills and interests.

  • Who can see my information?

Only members of Salem Evangelical Church who have been invited to join may log in. When you complete your profile, you set your privacy settings. Your giving information is only visible to you, our treasurer, and authorized staff members. The following are the general principles for managing information:

    • Your information is your information.

    • You have complete control over who can see your contact and personal information.

    • Contact information is never public or searchable on the Internet. A login always protects any information you make visible to your church family.

    • Authorized church staff will always have access to your profile information.

    • You and specific authorized church staff may update your profile information.

    • Sharing contact and personal information for children under 18 is limited for safety reasons.

    • Parents determine whether or not to display their child’s name in the church directory.

    • Children under 13 may not participate and cannot sign in.

  • How do I manage my own privacy?

Realm is a private, password-protected system for members of our church community only.

To check your privacy settings, click on the arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of your screen (or “More” in the app). Then click on “Manage Privacy.” We urge everyone over 18 to choose “Everyone in our church.” Other Realm users in the church will be able to see your email and home address, phone number, birthday (month and day, not year), marital status, and the names of members of your household. If you prefer to keep certain information private, you can choose one of the other options.

  • Can I make changes to my personal and contact information?

Yes! We encourage everyone to update their profiles. To see your personal and contact information, click on the arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of your screen (or “More” in the app). Select “My Profile” to check the information about you. Click on “Edit Profile” to change any of this information.

  • Help! I'm not getting any email from the church and my groups!

After you have activated your Realm profile, you need to change your email settings for Realm. Click on the arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of your profile. Select “Email Settings.” Select “All posts and replies.” In the app, go to “More” and “Settings.”

  • Can I contribute my tithes and offerings online? Can I see what I've given?

Yes, you can donate in three places: the church website (link to our contribution page), the Realm website (https://onrealm.org/SalemEvangelical/Giving/GivingHistory/), or in the Realm app by clicking on the Giving menu option.

  • Is online giving safe and secure in Realm?

All online transactions are conducted using an encrypted connection, through ACS Technologies (Realm), and Vanco, a PCI Level 1 Compliant Service Provider. Sensitive financial information (such as account and credit card numbers) do not pass through and are not stored on church premise computers; neither does church staff have access to this information. While “perfect security” does not exist, we have researched the details, methods, and reputations of the organizations and partners involved in providing online giving, and we believe that this is a robust and secure system.

  • Notes for desktop and laptop users:

Browsers: Keep your browser updated to the latest version for best results. We recommend using the latest version of any of the following internet browsers. Are you using the latest browser? Go to whatsmybrowser.org/ to find out.

    • Chrome
    • Firefox
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Safari
    • Realm no longer works with IE (Internet Explorer).

Operating Systems: Some older operating systems cannot use the latest browser versions. If your operating system cannot use the newest version of your browser, update the operating system first. This will not only give you access to the best features in Realm, but will also help ensure your Internet security. Out-of-date operating systems and browsers are far more vulnerable to attacks.
