July 23rd, 2020
Dear Salem Evangelical Church Family and beyond,
I trust this email finds you well. Governor Brown has issued new rules effective this Friday, July 24, 2020 that effect Salem Evangelical Church.
First, the good news, each of our small groups that meet on Sunday and during the week will not be impacted by the new rules. They will continue without interruption because the numbers come in under 100 on any given hour that we are meeting.
Second, face coverings are now required for all people five years of age and older and are recommended for children 2-5 according to the Governor. Face coverings are required, is the rule from the governor.
Third, our indoor seating capacity has gone from 250 to 100 for the time being. This will have a significant effect on what we have been enjoying. Because of this new number we must comply with, we will now need to have you RSVP rather than just show up like we have been enjoying. There is no effortless way to handle this to make all people happy. For this Sunday, we are asking you to RSVP to the church office by phone only. You can start calling in at 8 am this Friday, July 24. Please do not leave a message. To secure a reservation you must speak with a person to confirm your reservation. Please only sign up your immediate family. Please note that it takes 17 people to pull off a service, there are 20 staff and family that are coming this week (we will see how to lessen this in the weeks to come so there will be more room for the congregation to attend), I am planning on 20 people showing up who do not read emails and will not get this information (this has been our experience), which leaves room for 43 additional people.
We will try to come up with a system that is equitable so that people can attend at least once a month who are desiring to attend. Once we have reached capacity each week via phone reservations, we will send out an email stating we are full.
I realize this is unpleasant to say the least. Let’s stay positive. Let’s stay together. Let’s pray together.
Perhaps this will encourage you to join a small group or Bible study, or a prayer group, or a Sunday School class that meets on Sunday and other days of the week. Please look on the web site for offerings and descriptions available to your family.
In addition, I will continue to live stream the daily devotional in the month of August. That is new to our offerings in 2020. I will continue to lead the Wednesday night Bible study in August which is new in 2020.
We have no restrictions on reading our Bible, on telling others about Jesus, on prayer, on listening on line, and on attending Salem Evangelical Church within a small group.
I am asking us to please stay together as a church family and walk through these inconveniences with grace and love, together!
Pastor Randy R. Butler
