December 3, 2020

Good morning Salem Evangelical Church family,

Merry Christmas!

I am encouraged with the advancement of new medicines for COVID19.

I am encouraged that plans to distribute vaccines are very close to points of distribution.

I am encouraged that few people in our church have contracted COVID19.

I am encouraged that all S.E.C. staff have remained free from contracting COVID19 at this writing.

I am encouraged to see people again this Sunday.

I am encouraged to be able to attend prayer meeting this Sunday night.

I am encouraged for people who can meet in small groups starting Sunday.

I am encouraged by the missionary prayer meetings I have been able to participate in.

I am encouraged that my interim replacement has been secured.

I am encouraged by Scripture every day.

I am encouraged by kind notes, emails, texts, and phone calls.

I am encouraged by your prayers.

I am encouraged by your generous giving to S.E.C.

I am encouraged by emails from our missionaries.

I am encouraged by the Powell’s and Cantrall’s who have made it to their field of service despite COVID19 in 2020.

I am encouraged by the email I read to the congregation from Martha Trent.

I am encouraged by mission efforts being made locally with both our children and youth ministries.

I am encouraged by continued support for our missionaries during financial uncertainty.

I am encouraged by a perspective from church history and world history that puts 2020 in perspective.

I am encouraged by simply not watching the news.

I am encouraged by focusing on anything but COVID19 and politics.

I am encouraged by a sunny day.

I am encouraged by green grass.

I am encouraged by tilled dirt that is resting for the winter knowing Spring is around the corner.

I am encouraged by rain which nourishes our lush Willamette Valley.

I am encouraged by this Christmas season.

I am encouraged by Christmas songs.

I am encouraged by Christmas lights and decorations.

I am encouraged by an extra special emphasis on Jesus.

I am encouraged by the hope of maybe a day or two of snow at some point.

I am encouraged by my family.

I am encouraged by my friends.

I am encouraged for 2021.

I am encouraged because I am one day closer to heaven.

I am encouraged with a warm house.

I am encouraged with a full stomach.

I am encouraged with good health.

I am encouraged with a car that runs.

I am encouraged with clean dry clothes to wear.

I am encouraged to be in a country that is not at war.

I am encouraged because my future is in the hands of God.

I am encouraged because your future can be in the hands of God too.

I am encouraged because the future of S.E.C. is in the hands of God.

I am encouraged as tomorrow, December 4, I celebrate the day I was saved back in 1966.

I am encouraged because I believe this letter might be an encouragement to someone who has been discouraged.

I am encouraged because I have the privilege of leaving you with Scripture that is according to Hebrews 4:12…” living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Invite the Holy Spirit of God to deeply touch your heart and soul this day with encouragement!

I am encouraged with Romans 15:5-6…” Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

I am encouraged with Philippians 2:1-2…” Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”

I am encouraged with Hebrews 6:17-20…” In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.  This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

You will find attached a schedule that begins this Sunday, December 6, 2020 which is the same schedule as the one we left three weeks ago, so it should look very familiar to participants.

Not listed on the attachment is the Sunday morning worship service which remains at 9:15 am beginning this Sunday once again.

Christmas Eve Communion services will take place this year on December 24th at 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm.  The services will be about 30 minutes in length as we will not be waiting for families to be served as in previous years with one service.  We have made plans for a safe communion, a socially distanced communion and a very blessed communion with our Lord.  Please start figuring out how many will be in your family and on Monday we will take sign-ups for each of the three times knowing the 4pm service may likely be the most desirous, so please have a second and third choice already worked out with your family when you call the office to make your reservation.  There will be special music, a message, and communion for your family.  You may begin calling the church office at 9 am on Monday morning and we will reserve your reservation.

In Christ,

Pastor Randy R. Butler

Church Reopening 12-3-20

Beginning Thursday, December 3rd, the Governor has released faith-based organizations to have 25% of capacity or 100 people, whichever is less.  This has allowed SEC to reopen again after being restricted for three weeks. Beginning this Sunday with the 9:15 am service followed by classes and Bible Studies taking place throughout Sunday and the week.

The Board of Trustee’s approved dividing the church into four quadrants with the “Fire Curtains” being pulled allowing for up to 400 people to use church facilities at one time with up to 100 in each quadrant.  During this time, one or both of the fire curtains may be closed in the lobby requiring a person(s) to exit the building and use another entrance.

We have some great classes and events taking place this Sunday that you are invited to. As a reminder we ask that you please maintain social distancing, wash your hands and wear face coverings.  We will have available at each entrance hand sanitizers to disinfect your hands.  We also ask that you to maintain social distancing at all times as this is one of the most effective ways in reducing exposure.  We recognize doing what OHA asks us to do is uncomfortable and may not always be effective. By honoring these requests from Oregon Health Authority will allow all of us to be an example of Christ’s love and provide an opportunity to show compassion to those who have a real fear.  Please come prepared to help tighten this up in this area.
