Update #2 on Search for Senior Pastor

The Process for selecting SEC’s new Senior Pastor

Salem Evangelical Church (SEC) has been blessed to have Randy Butler as our Senior Pastor for nearly 35 years.  Now that he is stepping down, we want the congregation to be aware of the process that will be used to select our new senior pastor.

SEC is a member of the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church of North America (ECNA).  As such, we are governed by the ECNA rule on selection of pastors which states that:  “Any change in assignments shall be made by the Conference Superintendent(s) with the concurrence of the Minister and/or the Committee on Pastor-Parish Relations of the local church involved.”

SEC’s Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (PPRC) has lead responsibility for this process.   To assist in evaluating applicants, the PPRC established a Search Committee to develop a “short list” of the most qualified applicants based on Biblical requirements (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) and the needs of the church.  This list will be provided to the PPRC for further review and screening and selection of the candidate that best meets the needs of SEC.  The actual hiring of the pastor is a joint responsibility of the ECNA Conference Superintendent and the PPRC.  If all members of the PPRC, along with the Conference Superintendent, agree with the selection of the pastor, the Conference Superintendent will assign the pastor to our church.

Many hours will be spent reviewing applicants, listening to sermons, and possibly visiting candidates churches.  We anticipate that one or more candidates will be invited to speak in our church.  We don’t know how long it will take to find our new pastor, but we intend to be patient and wait on the LORD for His guidance and direction.  Please be in much prayer for the Search Committee, the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and Pastor Randy.

In His Service,

The SEC Pastor-Parish Relations Committee
