As Pastor Randy told us a year ago “the river is changing.”  At that time, little did we know how much it would change in 2020, and it will continue to change in 2021.  Isaiah 14:24 says “Surely, just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have planned so it will stand.”  The river is changing, but it is changing under God’s control!

One year ago, God told Pastor Randy that his work at SEC was complete and, faithful to God’s message, on January 31 he will step down as our Senior Pastor.  We know that God would not ask Pastor Randy to “step down” unless He had something else He wants him to “step up” in.  Please continue to pray for God’s direction and guidance in Pastor Randy’s and Joanie’s lives as they wait for the LORD to reveal His plan to them.

Our search for a Senior Pastor continues.  A new announcement was recently posted and applications are being reviewed.  Please continue to pray for the Search Committee as a great amount of time is spent reviewing applicants, discussing qualifications, and determining who to interview.  Please pray for unity within the committee and the church, patience as the committee reviews many candidates, and guidance from the Holy Spirit. We are confident that God will reveal the man He has chosen for our church at just the right time.

We are excited to announce that beginning in February, Pastor Lewis Shelton will serve as our interim Senior Pastor.  For over 50 years, he has pastored churches in Oregon, California and Nevada.  He served as the lead pastor for the First Assembly of God Church in Albany for more than 22 years and most recently as the Senior Pastor of the Friendship Church in Sun City, Palm Desert, California.  We clearly saw God’s hand guiding us to Pastor Lew and we look forward to his ministry at SEC where his initial focus will be on preaching and working with our staff.  Please pray for Lew and his wife Margaret as they complete their ministry at Friendship Church, sell their house (an offer is pending), move to Oregon at the end of this month, and begin their ministry at SEC.

Many of you have asked how you can express thanks to Pastor Randy and Joanie for 35 years of faithful service to SEC.  Regretfully, coronavirus has disrupted plans for an all-congregation celebration.  However, at the conclusion of each of the January 31st Sunday services, the Pastor-Parish Committee will represent the congregation in honoring Randy and Joanie.  If you cannot attend one of the services, a video of the presentation will be posted on the SEC website.  If you would personally like to thank  Randy and Joanie, please mail cards or letters to them.  Above all, continue to pray for them as they seek God’s direction for their lives.

In His service,

Your Pastor-Parish Committee
