Dear Salem Evangelical Church Family…
Date: March 13, 2020
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update:
I stated in my communication to you dated March 12, 2020 our plans, stating, “…to set in place what will likely be an ever-evolving cycle of procedures.” I also stated, “We will likely follow the plan of our local schools. They are meeting and so will we.” Likely, what is stated in this writing could change in future days as the crisis unfolds, is managed and then subsides.
While we could still hold services on March 15, 2020, I believe the “spirit of the law” for the common good is to be part of the solution rather than the last holdout. Because of today’s announcement of schools being closed, effective March 16-March 31, the spirit of the law would be to comply with the intent of what our society is trying to accomplish which is to limit the spread of the virus. With that said, we are now moving to a revised plan effective today, March 13, 2020.
We are CANCELLING our regular service times which are Sunday School, A.M. Worship, Sunday P.M. prayer service and Wednesday night classes and meal, March 15-31 in keeping with school closures.
At this writing, WE ARE CONTINUING small group activities. If you do not feel comfortable in an activity, any activity, do what is best for you and your family.
WE ARE LIVE streaming Sunday A.M. worship at 9:15. This live stream can be accessed after 10:30 to be watched at your convenience as well. NOTE: Go to Salem Evangelical Church’s Facebook page by going to http://facebook.com/salemec, the video will be playing live there and will be available for replay after the service is over. The video is also accessible via the Facebook app on mobile devices by searching for Salem Evangelical Church.
I AM EXCITED to hear from you who will watch our FIRST EVER LIVE STREAM. Please text me at 503-949-5998 or email me at email@example.com.
I ENCOURAGE you to invite people to watch wherever in the world they may live. Perhaps you know a friend who attends a church who does not live stream, invite them to watch our service. Let missionaries know, let friends know, let people who cannot make it to church know.
WE ARE CONTINUING small group activities. If you do not feel comfortable in an activity, any activity, do what is best for you and your family.
WE ARE COINTINUING the senior high missions trip to New Mexico.
WE ARE ADDING communication one on one with people within our church family. Age level staff will be contacting volunteers and people under their care.
WE ARE ADDING particular care over our seniors and those with underlying medical conditions and any people who are self-quarantined. YOU are responsible to let us know if you have a need so we can help you during this time of crisis. Pastor David and Pastor Marion will be heading up this people group within our church family.
WE ARE ADDING a deep clean throughout all facilities on our property to insure our best effort at health safety.
WE ARE OPEN during normal office hours. If you would like to come and pray in the church you are most welcome to do so. If you would like a space to read or study your Bible you are most welcome to do so on our campus. If you would like to meet with friends you are most welcome to do so on our campus.
WE ARE MEETING WITH PEOPLE as we normally would until we receive further notice otherwise.
WE ARE ENCOURAGING more prayer not less prayer, during this brief time of interruption in our church schedule.
WE ARE ENCOURAGING more Scripture reading not less during this brief time of interruption in our church schedule.
WE ARE ENCOURAGING more communication and personal touches with one another not fewer during this brief time of interruption in our church schedule.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generous support of the ministries of Salem Evangelical Church. They are deeply appreciated.
PLEASE SHARE this writing with folks who may not have internet access. When in doubt, overcommunicate.
I LOVE Romans 8:28…” And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
I LOVE the passage I shared yesterday too, Psalm 46.
I LOVE Ephesians 3:20-21…” Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
REMEMBER, we have a Big God who is inviting us to demonstrate a Big Faith so that we might experience God Results! THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FEAR, which leads me to my favorite passage of Scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6…” Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
